More and more people need to fight screen fatigue after a week of work or school.
The Covid-19 pandemic has changed our lives dramatically. Work and school have a big part to do with that too: lockdowns, online meetings, working remotely, you name it. All of this has had a huge impact on our screen time on both our laptops and smartphones. It’s as if we as human beings are suck into our screens nowadays.
Add this to our classic use of TVs, strolling on social media, private Internet surfing, watching the news, reading the online paper, facetiming friends and family, … and that’s a lot of hours behind a screen, which is also tremendously bad for our eyes.
As a result, many people feel exhausted after a day, due to screen fatigue.. As we all know, technology is an integral part of our society, but it is important to find the balance.
So for their protection, there is a rule called, the 20-20-20 rule, which along with helpful other tips, prevent eye strain.
What is the 20-20-20 rule? Actually, it’s quite simple.
Basically, the 20-20-20 rule is that after every 20 minutes of looking at a screen, you look at an item that is at least 20 feet (6 meters) away. And do this for 20 seconds.
Why 20 seconds?
That’s how long it takes for your eyes to fully relax. What is also important to do during these 20 seconds is to take a sip of water. Why? If you keep yourself hydrated, you’re eyes will be as well.
In addition to the 20-20-20 rule, experts have listed a few tips for looking at your screen (a little) less, to spare your mind and eyes.
